Senior Accountant

Job Description:

Founded in Oakville, California in 1885 and restored in 1979, Far Niente is consistently recognized as a benchmark producer of Napa Valley Chardonnay and Oakville Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing day to day accounting and cost functions by following, improving upon, and developing new accounting tasks to maintain accurate and timely accounting books and records. They are responsible for ensuring the integrity and reliability of General Ledger Balances. The candidate needs to be organized and very detail oriented. Accuracy and potential for growth are essential elements of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly and year end close. Including the posting of all necessary general ledger entries and preparation of reports for Controller review.
  • Coordinate with other members of the accounting team to track and maintain accurate subledger and general ledger balances.
  • Review expenditures and GL entries for accurate cost center and account postings.
  • Post and prepare departmental accounting data; identify, and correct errors; identify and compute monthly accruals; apply accounting principles to transactions, and; recommend revisions in departmental accounting procedures to ensure conformance with General Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Be responsible for wine costing process by maintaining bulk wine schedules and finished goods SKUs.
  • Applies cost principles to analyze project costs and reconcile variances.
  • Provide all COGS and related cost inputs to Director of Finance in budgeting.
  • Perform analysis and forecast on project and operational production costs.
  • Provide support for the fixed asset inventory and depreciation systems.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Interprets accounting information, analyzes reports and recommends actions to be taken.
  • Work with the Controller to enhance internal procedures to ensure processes are efficient and effective.
  • Ensure timely governmental filing of property tax, and other compliance filings.
  • Ensure preparation of all audit workpapers for Controller review for annual financial audit.
  • Consistently analyze financial data in an accurate and timely manner; monitor progress and changes.

Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance or closely related discipline. Experience in lieu of a degree will also be considered.
  • 5 years of closely related work experience.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Intermediate level skill of MS Excel.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-motivated team player who is able to work well under pressure and handle multiple priorities within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interested in learning new systems and technologies.
